ETA---somewhere along the length of this contest last week, my photos took a powder. They were not at Picasa but I did have them copied on my hard drive. I waited to see if the problem would rectify itself as no other posts were messed up or missing photos. I guess Google liked them enough to keep them-I do wonder which one they chose best tho.. So I fixed them for "now". I am extending this contest/opinion piece until Friday August 10 at 11 PM. Feel free to send to friends and enemies. I will get together the prize and post that with the winner chosen at random later that evening.

I made a card recently that has bugged me a bit as it just doesn't seem finished. It originally had a large "bow" on it and I trimmed it down. It looked a bit better but still lacks something. I asked my daughter and she said it was flat. So to me that meant adding some embellishment to bring it off the paper. I am going to post all my modifications and the original. I would like you to post your favorite. If you don't like any of them, tell me what you would do to make it a winner.
CARD 1---ORIGINAL
CARD 2--- SATIN BUTTONCARD 1---ORIGINAL
CARD 3--- BUTTERFLY
CARD 4---CRYSTAL LEAVES
CARD 5--- STAMEN
CARD 6---BUTTER FAIRY
CARD 7---SWIRL BUTTON
I will leave this opinion piece open until Sunday night when I get home from the Stamp Convention in Novi. So around midnight, I will randomly draw a number and that person will get a fun little prize. Haven't figured out what yet-had a bad experience with my last non-pareil as the recipient still has not received it and it's been several weeks. Stupid me--I did not put delivery confirmation on it. And of course, none of it is replaceable as it was a one of a kind box of goodies.
So let me know what you think on this and I will post the winner and the photo that was chosen along with the prezzie late Sunday!
I am amazed at how many different versions of this card you have made. I ADORE your orginal creation and the one re-creation that I equally ADORE is Number 7. By adding the button is the TOUCH that I think FINISHED the card. The other re-creations are equally as adoreable, but I think (for me) you COMPLETED your Piece of Art with the perfect embellishment by adding the button. Thanks for sharing all your hard work with us. Kadie from Madison, Wisconsin
ReplyDeleteI'm not withdrawing my critique of "too flat" but I do think it photographs better than my in-person observation.
ReplyDeleteI think I like the buttons the best, swirl or satin. That stamen looks like a spider- don't like that!
I like the original one the best! Could you try a bright center paper color in the darker center of the flower?
ReplyDeleteI like the swirl button added best, but I also think it needs something to bring the white towards the top of the card. Does that make sense?
ReplyDeleteAdding the white button center, makes it need some small bit of white at the top, so I would add a 1/4 inch piece of white grosgrain along the top of the larger colored ribbon, and tie them both together into the bow/knot.
I think I like the original best! P.S. Just got your update now...weird!
ReplyDeleteI think they are all great but my favorite is #6 and the origional.
ReplyDeleteI also thought the stamen looks a little like a spider.
I love the card!
Have fun at the convention.
I am in agreement. I like the original the best!! The only other one that stands out is number 2 with the satin button. Thanks for sharing with us!
ReplyDeleteI actually like the original! I lean toward simple, though. :) They are all cute! Fun card.
ReplyDeleteSatin button totally! It just jumps out at you and is so pretty! I love the colors of the card too. So cheerful!
ReplyDeleteThanks!
Cheryl
I really liked the one with the Butterfly in the center of the flower myself. I thought you did an awesome job on all of them. It was not easy to pick a favorite because it was such a tiny difference between each card. I loved the first one also, but you asked for one so I will go with the butterfly. Nice job!
ReplyDeleteI hope you had fun at convention. :-)
ReplyDeleteMy opinion is for card #3. I really like the butterfly on the flower.

Hi Jan...
ReplyDeleteI love the original and the other that really pops is the satin button on #2. I don't like any of those other doo-dads that you added to the flower. They don't flow with the card and look out of place. So it's #1 or #2 for me. I have been browsing your blog and your cards are really great. I absolutely ADORE your Halloween cards.
All of the cards are very nice, but I like the original the best. If I changed anything (and I'm not sure that I would), maybe I would put a one word stamp (maybe "wish" in the center raised up to make it pop. Great colors and the ribbon is so pretty!
ReplyDeleteI like #7 best. They are all beautiful. You have a great blog.

I love 2, 3 and 7! I think the one with the butterfly is my fav tho!
ReplyDeleteI like the 3rd one with the butterfuly the best! Good stuff!
ReplyDeleteI like your original version much better because it had enough detail as it was. It's an example of "less is more". It's a pretty card but most of the additions were distracting.
ReplyDeleteI'm sticking with the original too! I really like it. I think the white buttons kind of wash out the flower... the darker center pops the flower. Maybe a little glitter or some clear micro beads in the center of the flower would spice it up a bit if you're still looking for something extra.
ReplyDeleteI like the original version best, but the ones with buttons are also nice. I don't think I'd be a big fan of the other embellishments anywhere - I'm not sure where the stamen would look good, for instance - and I'm a fan of simplicity.
ReplyDeleteI love the original, it's perfect as is. The satin button looks ok too, but rest sort of look out of place. I hope you go back to the original because I loved it!
ReplyDeleteI think this card is great - but do feel it's missing "something". I like the last version best, but I might try tying a bit of the pink ribbon through the holes of the button. Might add just a little extra color to perk up the white.
ReplyDeleteThe original card is the best to me Jan
ReplyDeleteWell, they're all great. I love the colors you used and love the original one more than others.
ReplyDeleteI like your original best! Thanks for a chance.
ReplyDeleteI love your card & definitely like the original the best. The buttons are OK too. The smaller embellishments don't work in my opinion. It was fun to see the variety of ideas though.
ReplyDeleteI think I like #2-Satin. I like the white in the middle of the flower...I probably would stamp a greeting on it. Love your colors... and that ribbon is so nice! TFS!
ReplyDeleteI like the original. The only thing I might change is adding a button to the middle of the flower but SMALLER so that the contrasting darker color of the center is still able to be seen.
ReplyDeletePretty colors Jan. Thanks. WHICH one do YOU like the best? : )
I really like the original one. Now if I were to add anything to it, I would just add some tiny green leaves (green that matches to the paper), kind of like you have with the clear ones, but not that big.
ReplyDeleteI love the first one. I also like number 7. You have made some beautiful cards. Thanks for sharing. Mary
ReplyDeleteI like the original because I prefer the clean look. The flower itself is really pretty and the ribbon adds all the detail the card needed. Anything else you tried adding was too distracting and appeared cluttered. It's so pretty as is.
ReplyDeleteAll of them are wonderful. Each flower a bit more unique then the next. That being said.....I love the original card #1 the best. Why mess with perfection. :)
ReplyDeleteMary
I like the last one best, the one with the swirl button. They are all cute though!
ReplyDeleteThey are all wonderful. My likes are 1, 4, 2, 7,. I don't really like the butterflies, stamen?, etc in the middle of the flower.
ReplyDeleteThanks for sharing all your great cards.
