I don't eat candy unless it's peanut butter. I personally would rather eat a handful of garlic to keep the bad spirits away than eat sugary goo. I love to bake for others tho and am a fanatic about those goofy little round colored balls you can sprinkle n cupcakes and cookies. I have them in all colors, sizes, themes and always go to Target the day after a holiday to get them at 50% off. So I have decided to call my blog candy "Nonpareils" which in French means "without equal" for intricate decorations. My grandpa was French so this will be my tribute to him, as he taught me how to bake back in the early 60's.
Anyone that read my blog last week when I said there was blog candy coming may remember I said something about an essay question or test. And that is correct. I have a serious question for y'all and you must answer the question to qualify for the drawing, which will be random but only those who answer the question will qualify.

Here is a photo of the nonpareils you will receive. The photo isn't great because I had to redo it and its 1AM,and somehow the other photos I took got lost somewhere on my hard drive. I use one program for default of photos I don't need to name and index but Photoshop Elements keeps over riding it and is driving me nuts as I don't know what folder it put them in and I have about 5000 artistic ones. I will probably find them when I don't want them anymore.
So this small nonpareil gift consists of one 6 x 6 pad of Basic Grey paper (36 sheets), 3 sets of Gartner pre-folded cards and envies in a red that matches the Basic Grey papers,1 clear stamp package of 4 stamps including a flower and three phrases, one acrylic block to match the words, one four yard twill tape package (you can dye this with inks, chalks, and other colors-markers that are alcohol based work great!!), 5 heart shaped paper clips, three metallic tags that say thank you in script and a piece of Hardanger mesh plastic canvas that I have cut to use as a template for paper piercing. I did this rather than buy those 10.00 ones from the stamp companies as I tend to lose stuff that is clear in my stash. This works for me.
The random drawing will take place June 1 at about 11PM. You must post to this particular posting, so don't email me as it will go to my spam file. One entry per person, and you MUST answer the question honestly and with great thought.
so here is the big question-------
You are being exiled to a remote island and will be all alone and have to survive on your own for 90 days. You can only take one food item with you-as much as you want of it but only one thing. It cannot be an animal or anything that has eyeballs. And you must leave some of it for the next exile to live on. What one food item would you take that you would not get sick of and would enjoy for 90 days every day and could leave some for the next person to do the same with? I am very curious to see what your answers will be.
Remember-only post to this entry and only once. If you don't answer the question, you will not qualify.
Have a good week and see you back here on Friday at 11PM-and the Pistons better be on the way to the NBA Finals by then. No more goofing around guys-my nerves are shot!!
Hmmm that one's tough. I would love to have cereal and milk but I don't think that would work. So how bout Powerbars. They taste like crap but at least I would have some sort of nutrition.
ReplyDelete~Melissa
This is tough. But, I think...tomatoes. Does that sound weird? They are good for you, taste good, and you could plant them for the next person coming on the island. Of course, they couldn't eat them until the next summer but hey, I'll be gone by then! ;0)
ReplyDeleteGreat job on the interesting question. At first I wanted to say chocolate for I know I could eat it everyday. Yet when I read you had to leave some for the next guy I deciced to give it some more thought.(for I don't like to share my chocolate. lol) So since summer is here and every year I get excited I finally get to have these again I will say peas from the garden. I love fresh garden peas and am a little more willing to share them with my family (just a little). I'll be back to see what others had to say, such a great question!
ReplyDeleteHmmmm....first one eh?! Well, I suppose if I were to take just ONE food item for me...and I would not get sick of it, it would have to be my cherios cereal!! I eat cereal Most days and haven't got sick of it yet! I think chocolate might...I HATE to say it....get tiring for me if that's all I ate! Looking forward to seeing other responses!! :)
ReplyDeleteYou have peanut butter on my mind, however if I must leave this for someone else, they may have a peanut allergy. So I will say some good beef jerky. Stays good for a long time and is packed with protein. Fun question thanks for the chance to win some goodies.
ReplyDeleteGreat question! I would take peanut butter because it gives you energy, fat and carbs all in one.
ReplyDeleteClaudia F.
Oh, this is so easy. I'm taking dill pickle chips. Not nutritional I know but hey, it's only 90 days, right?! :)
ReplyDeleteIt would definitely have to be salad for me...........without a doubt. Who doesn't eat salad?? Thanks for the chance to win some cool things.
ReplyDeleteHello! Great question. I would bring peanut butter with me. I've eaten peanut butter every day for the last 10 years, so I don't think I'd get sick of it. It also has protein to keep me going and sugars to help my blood sugar levels. Can't wait to see what other people would take!
ReplyDeleteCheryl KVD
I would have to say, Pizza (Can I take pizza since it has more than 1 topping?) I eat pizza at least 4 times a week and could eat it everyday. If Pizza doesn't count then I would take donuts, mmmmm. :D
ReplyDeletehi Jan - what a great question - not sure if this qualifies as one thing, but how about Cold Cereal (with milk)? I could eat this for days and days and not get sick of it. is that weird? Raisin Bran or maybe some sort of Granola.
ReplyDeleteSo that's my answer! Look forward to reading what others say.
Beth (mommy to a busy 3 3/4 year old)
Oh that is too fun!
ReplyDeleteI've always wondered what it would be like to be stranded....hmmm. What could I eat for 3 months without getting sick of?
If I was on an island, protein would probably be taken care of (I could probably fish or hunt crabs or something), I would imagine I could find some sort of vegetation to eat.
And it would have to be something that wouldn't go bad. No fridge. I think I would take a gazillion boxes of Nature Valley's sweet and salty granola bars. Good nutrition, and just enough sweet to make me happy.
(Do you like my long answer?? :)
Thanks for the fabulous giveaway!
okay, this is so survivorish, but i would say rice...i LOVE rice...and i could definitely live off of it for days and days...and there would always be some left for the next exile! and it's easy to cook, and so filling! thanks jan!

Peanut Butter would definately be my choice... I have it everyday and would miss it if it weren't available.
ReplyDeleteOk, I'm used to eating the same thing for 90 days at a time, so this one isn't a stretch for me. The military gives us these squeezy pouches of mystery gel that we kind of like Go-GURT. I'd take those if I was really stranded, but the nonsense side of me says to take gas station bean/cheese burritos!
ReplyDeleteI won't answer since we chatted earlier...if I could bring anything (without reservation), I would say trail mix. I have two faves right now which I switch on and off from (a cranberry blend and an organic one I found at Costco). I could eat this non-stop and it is a couple of hundred calories for every 1/2 cup...arrgh! Even the good things will kill ya!
ReplyDeleteWow...this is a tough one and it really makes one think. If I was stranded on a deserted island and had to eat the same thing for 90 days plus leave some for the next guy what would I take. No animals or eyeballs which is ok by me since I'm not really a meat eater. I think I'd go with potatoes. There are so many things you can do with potatoes that I think I could probably go 3 months without getting sick of them. Plus I could plant some for the next guy. lol
ReplyDeleteSeriously, I'm glad this isn't happening anytime soon.
Peanut M&M's. There's nutrition in the peanut and I must have chocolate!
ReplyDeletePeanut butter. But I would probably get bored and eat it all. Thanks for the game. Very interesting.
ReplyDeleteI'd take nuts! I could live on nuts and water for a long time! There will be water won't there? Great candy! Thanks for sharing!
ReplyDeleteI'd have to say trail mix, one with a large variety of items mixed in it. Then you could pick things out of it, make different mixes, and so on.
ReplyDelete90 days is along time (chuckle) however I would take some rice.
ReplyDeletewell. . .90 days isn't that long when you really think about it. So I would want it to be something tasty. I'm going to say Odwalla bars. I love them!
ReplyDeleteYikes...I love pizza & tacos, but if I can only take 1 item, neither of those won't work. So I quess I'll take a big bag of popcorn to pop over the campfire. Just make sure that you allow me to bring a lot of fresh water to go with that:)
ReplyDeleteeasy....PIZZA! I could eat plain cheese pizza every day and never get sick of it!
ReplyDeleteFor me the answer is bread. I love bread and the more hearty the grain the better. (Peanut Butter is my second choice!)
ReplyDeleteThis is easy, since I am a cheeseaholic, I would have to bring along some sharp cheese. I may leave scraps.
ReplyDeleteI would take jerky. I love it and if I took it in different flavors, I don't think I would tire of it. I need my protein! :)
ReplyDeleteThanks for letting me play.
Peanut butter! It's delicious and nutricious. I love peanut butter. on celery, on sandwiches, with jelly, I have even been known to eat it with a spoon, but share it....that's another story. LOL
ReplyDeleteI thought about it for a while and if you want my honest answer, it would have to be Pizza. I love Pizza and only get it occassionally. I really think I would do fine with it for 90 days.
ReplyDeleteebWhat a fun way to win that sweet candy aka nonpareils. This question really makes you think. I would have to say trail mix, cuz you would have a variety to pick from..plus it is healthy too. Good luck to everyone.
ReplyDeleteWell I certainly had to think about that one. My first thought oh ya CHOCOLATE! but I said Oh no on that so I think I would choice blueberries. I could make a well in the sand to keep them refrigerated.
ReplyDeleteI have enjoyed reading the other's posts & I don't mean to be a copycat, but my answer would have to be a big jar of peanut butter. Whenever I need a quick pick-me-up at work, I grab a big spoon and eat a spoonful of peanut butter. Works every time.
ReplyDeletei would take potatoes... cuz they are so versatile! french fried, baked potatoes, stir fried potatoes, mashed potatoes, etc... :)
ReplyDeleteThe food I would take is a Slo Poke.
ReplyDeleteRemember that candy from the 50’s, 60’s and 70’s?
Slo Pokes are a rich chewy taffy caramel on a stick with long lasting flavor.
It would easily last me for 90 days, with plenty left over!
I would choose bananas because they would provide sustenance and most people like them, so the next guy would be ok with those I reckon.
ReplyDeleteOoh, fun question!
ReplyDeleteAnother PB fanatic checking in (I always said that if one of our children had a peanut allergy, I'd have to keep a jar in the trunk for my "fix")
Simple: quinoa. Sonds like something funny but its one of those "perfect" foods. You can eat the leaves but more importantly, the seeds can sub for any grain product. And quinoa is the only cereal grain that is also a complete protein for human consumption (all the right amino acids). You could literrally live on it alone. All you peanut butter lovers are going to have some serious nutritional deficiences after 90 days!
ReplyDeleteHi again, Jan
ReplyDeleteI gave this one some thought even though it is late in the evening - but I think I would take a few hundred boxes of twinkies. They really are not my favorite food, in fact I don't think I've eaten a twinkie since grade school and my children don't even know what they are! However, they do stay with you for a while and their shelf life is like 100 years so there'd be enough left for the next guy. There's my entry - Have a great weekend and thanks for the chance to win some candy!!
